About me

Hi,

Thank you for visiting my blog.

I am a clinical cardiac Electrophysiologist at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. I treat patients with complicated electrical disorders of the heart. I love what I do every day.

Clinical medicine inspires me every day. I believe that compassion, presence, empathy and erudition are essential qualities of a physician.

I work with some of the smartest and most dedicated people in the world. It is one of the greatest privileges of my life.

I believe that we cannot treat disease by procedures or drugs alone. Optimal health can only be achieved when we make choices to improve our physical and psychological health.

I am the vice-chair of innovation at University of Michigan Cardiovascular Center. I help design and run a program to harvest, test and implement ideas from the members of our community. The innovation program serves as the pipeline for the entrepreneurial and clinical ecosystems at University of Michigan.

My research is focused on using artificial intelligence to make healthcare better.  I use digital health solutions and machine learning to understand the physiological and psychological determinants of symptoms in patients with atrial fibrillation. I am building a research framework for rich data collection and analysis using smartphone apps, medical records and wearable sensors. I believe that artificial intelligence will revolutionize the way we treat patients with chronic medical conditions.

I love to read and acquire new models for thinking. I believe that you acquire wisdom by acting on knowledge. I read about life, philosophy, psychology, mathematics, physics, economics, leadership, productivity, innovation, computer science, literature and all things medicine. This website is the record and reflection of my discourse with ideas and questions.

I write about the artificial intelligence, innovation, medicine and everything else I am learning about.  The primary place that I share this information is through my weekly newsletter and this website. You can sign up below.
